Currency Converter Property DescriptionThe house is a rambling, old stone complex built by Sem Wissler, tanner by trade, and founder of Salem. It includes his "shoe factory" which employed 20 men {elbow to elbow!} and a working bell tower used to call his men to work.
Salem, once a bustling community in its' own right, is now simply a quiet part of Elora with its' own park with mill pond and swans. It is a pleasant 15 minute walk, all on sidewalks, (1.5 minutes by car) to Downtown Elora. A 15 minute drive will take you to St. Jacobs.
Upstairs, there are 3 rooms with a spacious deck off the landing.
The Suite has 2 interconnected rooms with an ensuite bathroom between them. One room has a queen bed while the other has a single bed, a pullout couch and a TV/VCR.
The Pink Room has a queen bed with a tub/shower in the ensuite bathroom. This lovely light filled room has 2 large windows overlooking the rear garden and the lower level patio.
The Blue Jay Room has a queen bed and an ensuite bathroom with shower stall. It too has a view of the back garden.
For those who have trouble with stairs there is a room on the ground floor. It has a queen bed, an ensuite bathroom and a view of the back garden.
Outside, there is a lower level guest patio with 2 swings. Farther back in the garden there is picnic table under the willow tree. Evenings one might prefer the deck as it catches the cooling breezes. There is also a lovely little corner with 2 park benches where even in winter it is possible to avoid the wind and soak up the heat from the sun warmed stone walls.
BreakfastThe Dining Room faces the very colourful front garden where one can watch the humming birds and finches having their breakfast feast.
A plate with a variety of fresh fruit is first up. This is followed by a generous helping of eggs, bacon and ham or beef sausage and vegetables or salad. There is always a variety of interesting breads, croissants, waffles, muffins etc. Coffee, tea, green tea or herb teas are always available.
